Lighting

There are not ceiling lights that were wired into the bedrooms and the only ceiling light in upstairs living room is at the ceiling fan. Due to the need and relative simplicity of wiring lighting in the upstairs bedrooms, those areas will be addressed first. We have discussed recessed light fixtures in those areas due to the low ceilings and their nice appearance.

For the research/planning phase of the project we need to decide:

• if and where we want to wire in additional lighting
• what kind of lighting fixtures to install
• if we want to replace the ceiling fan in the living room and the lighting over the dining room table

We will set the deadline for this phase of the project as 2/1/2020.

Once we decide on where we want additional light then I will measure the dimension of the rooms so we can decide a lighting layout. I have already measured the upstairs bedrooms. Measuring the room dimensions will be all we need to do with the data collection phase.

Before we we can work on the layout of lighting we need to decide on what type or combination of types of lighting we want. Due to the relatively low ceiling height of 7.5' we can't install anything that hangs down very low such as chandeliers or pendants. Our remaining options include:

• ceiling-mount lighting: this option seems like it would distribute the light out the best

• recessed lighting: this option seems to have more of a minimalist feel to it but I would expect that they would need more of them relative to ceiling-mounted lighting since the light is more focused

• wall-sconce lighting: it seems like they may look nice on the wall next to the bed

• track lighting: it seems like this may be good to direct light into the closets although the ceiling may be too low and if you stood in front of the closet you would probably just block the light anyway
