There are several reasons why we we would want to develop the property to utilize the forested area including:
Reduce the risk of forest fires
Be able to use utilize the timber resources that we have
Sequester carbon
We could use the trees in this forested area for:
Firewood
Milling lumber in a mill
Stripping bark to use for posts/furniture
Logging Road
I've delineated one option for an initial layout of roads through our forested land in yellow below. The approximate location of the ravines are shown in blue below. I worked to avoid the ravines and I'm not sure how steep the terrain is along this delineation so we would need to walk this path to inspect it. These roads could be used for a 4-wheeler or if sufficiently smooth and flat it can be traversed by the truck. We could potentially build it as a corduroy road if we run into swamp conditions.
Furniture and Fencing
I bought a tenon cutter that we could use to cut joints for fencing or furniture. This tenon cutter has two blades that doesn't look like it would be too hard to fabricate. I'm not sure if we would need to heat treat and temper the metal before using it as a cutting blade. The measured the following dimensions of the blade.
We also got a debarking tool that I mounted to our electric chainsaw. The dimensions for this blade are shown below. I do not believe the smaller holes are necessary so we just need the large middle oval and the large side slots.
